a decent alloy cleaner and a pressure washer also help

managed to use them today and they are good, and as guy stated above a pressure washer helps which i had the use of today

As above, that's down to the cleaner you use, not the brushes 

Try some Bilberry Wheel Cleaner (or other alloy wheel cleaner) and leave it to dwell a bit before using the brush.

Try some Bilberry Wheel Cleaner (or other alloy wheel cleaner) and leave it to dwell a bit before using the brush.

just to add to that^ if your rims have been left too long with crap on them they will be harder to get clean again and could possibly be pitted.
