Poorly Mk3

Has anyone experienced the engine just stopping mid drive? Ive had this happen twice now, first I thought it was lack of fuel but ive got just over a 1/4 of a tank and its just done it again on the way to work...
Ive bought a nail.... ;-(

Might well be your crank sensor, the shielding on the cable cracks up and shorts on vibrations.  Mates did it a few weeks back.  would just cut out while going along, sometime start runnin after a few meters or only a slit second, or after a rest.  Swapped that out and not a problem since

yeah i had this on my mk3 golf gti, turned out to be the coil, had to call AA to come and he put a new on in then and there.
