« on: 09 January 2010, 13:30 »
i know there are many threads about this so i dont want to bore people but what do you think of this is it a good deal

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-A3-1-8T-20V-1996-2003-K04-NEW-TURBO-TURBOCHARGER_W0QQitemZ160378826339QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item255752ae63

i dont really have any experience with kk turbos as onlt ever used garrett on the fords i have owned and also do any gt turbosor garrett turbos go on the mk4 as a direct replacement as they are a bit stronger than the kk's

Were you ever on PF mate? Sure I recognise your user name...

Anyways that looks like a cheap copy to me as it doesn't have KKK in the triangle on the comp housing. Aldo K04-015 is not a direct fit to the Golf, it will need new bits fabricating...

Stay clear of it mate, buy a genuine K03s or K04-001 turbo. As said the K04-015 is not a direct bolt on unit as you'll need a different downpipe fabricated. The K03s and K04-001 are straight bolt on units

i already have the ko3s and have edited my above post as i put the wrong link in  :embarassed:

yes i was on pf for quite a few years till it got taken over and updated and i could never log in properly  and my account just never worked properly and they toolk away my gold membership which i paid for  apart from that it was a good helpfull site

if garretts are looked after well they do last, problem with old fords is you need a inline filter on the oil feed as the old engines have loads of bits of metal and copper floating around in the oil which just chews the turbos up, i had a t34 on a frst then fitted it to a erst running 22 psi in the frst and 18 in the erst and it lasted me about 4 years with no probs just had to clean the filters out every 4 months

the main reason is i want a stronger turbo as i would like the car to flutter as i just hate the pssht noise of the forge diverter valve it sound a mix between a bus and a chav

i know it will cause more lag but i just love the sound

the flutter sound you mention is normally down to the turbo's wastegate being knackered. The K03s is a strong turbo and can boost easily to 22psi and have no problems with Lag. If you step up to the K04 then you will still get the normal noise from the re-circ valve but be able to get more power with the right upgrades but there will be abit of lag.

Not a good idea as this will effect the running of the car, as the air that is re-circulated has already been measured/metered and the ECU will then put the right amount of fuel in to match. If you remove or blank to re-circ valve then the air that has been measured wont be going back through the system and thus the ecu will be overfuelling the engine

surely the maf sensor would be reading how much air is being sucked in threw the filter and then adjust the fuelling before it even goes past the recirulating valve

surely it can be done as i have heard quite a few tt's that flutter and they are basically the same engine

is there no other recirculing valve on the market that actually does not vent to atmosphere, do the standard ones make a sound ??
