Delayed Delivery AGAIN
« on: 06 January 2010, 10:56 »
Called my dealer this morning to get an update on how much longer I will have to wait for this bloody car of mine to arrive........ NOT good news!!!

The car was ordered on the 18th of August 2009 and on ordering I was told a delivery date of December. "A long time to wait for a car", I said to myself but wouldn't be the first time I've waited for the wheels I've wanted. Called one day for an update and was told I should expect the car sometime in Feburary. You can imagine my anger!!!! Then, at last, some good news. My dealer phones one day in early December to let me know that I would be picking my car up on the 20th of January give or take. Happy days...... I thought!!! I called this morning for an update so I can organise time off work for collection only to be told sometime in MARCH!!!! Of course I had a few words with the dealer but this is now getting out of hand. I am looking at having to wait 8 months for this car.

Anyone else had this problem?? What should I be doing now wth regards to the dealer because I hope you all agree that an 8 month wait is unacceptable. After todays news I am just thinking of cancelling because spending a good amount of money on this car and expect to be looked after but as of yet this has not happened.

Any advise is most welcome folks.

I`d call Customer Services...dealers are just salesmen, and I always feel I get better info from Milton Keynes.

As danksi said give them a call and see what they have to say as 8 months is insane for what is effectively a mass produced car.

You wouldn't be the first to cancel.

Crazy situation - just ask Snoopy and others.

I feel hard done to waiting since September but it is just stupid.

8 Months is way over the top. One word I would be using is "COMPENSATION"

I would be very interested in hearing how people get on with the big 'C' word above.
Anyone being offered any sweeteners?

The loan/hire cars seem fairly freely available...if it suits people to take them.
Fixed prices and trade ins should be a given.

Thus far though, I've not personally met anyone being offered a spec upgrade for their patience....although my local dealer did have a fairly basic Mk6 come with a 'free' RNS510 as they didn't have any of whatever the purchaser had ordered...so VW fitted a full RNS system for free!
Sporny, or what?

I would have thought it would be a nice gesture to offer hi-fi upgrades, leather or even a jump to RNS for those who have waited many months for specced GTIs....even the servicing free?

Reducing my Golf count by the week....

Yep, tell them you want a discount or you're walking.

There are quite a lot of mk6 GTI's on VW's used car finder if you aren't overly fussy on spec with low milage ready to go.

I placed a deposit on a car to get on the waiting list so i could get a car for March delivery in October. I spoke to me dealer in December and he told me he was having trouble getting the order on the system before Dec and he might not be able to order until March !
I canncelled my order and the dealer gave me my deposit back.

I have now manged to order from another dealer with a decent discount on 22nd Dec and have a build week 9 (unconfirmed) .
It will be interseting to see how accurate these unconfirmed build weeks are if there are people like yourself having to wait 8 months !

Lets hope that they are worth the wait (wouldn't want to be driving around in this snow in a new car anyway!)

August to March is 7 months, not 8. I've never waited less than 4 months on a VW factory order - going all the way back to 1989.

To be fair to your dealer, it probably isn't his fault, it's VW's manufacturing schedule. Doesn't mean you shouldn't ask for something back, whether it be money or an equivalent car on loan. It seems reasonable to me since delivery date is a part of the conditions of sale.

Just don't go in there all angry, but go with a few options for them to consider, things which you would find acceptable as compensation (loan car, free servicing for 3 years, free optional extra, etc). Start a little high with what you expect and be prepared to haggle. Leave it with them to consider for a day while you 'think about cancelling the order'.

Give the dealer a chance. If you don't get any joy, then go to VW.

Thanks for the advice guys but I'm sure August to March is 8 months Mac7. I ordered it on the 18th of August and say I pick it up on the 18th of March then that to me is 8 months. 18th August, September, October, November, December, January, Feburary and 18th March. My head now hurts with all this counting

Suppose it would be worth my while just waiting til April though to get a 10 plate
