Whats going on???

Ok my car has developed a slight problem sometimes i cant get the car to lock and the stereo isint switching its self off when i take the key out the ignition, the lights are also staying on unless i turn the auto off and a week ago i came out thinking my car had been broken into as both my windows had  decided to open overnight. not good!!!

Its going into the garage, but i'd like a little info before i go in and some salesman tries to give me a shoddy excuse.

windows opening themselves - happened to my friends a4 and turned out to be a fried central locking (etc) module.

Sounds like the ignition switch hasn't realised you've withdrawn the key and is keeping the lights / stereo on and (becuase its interlocked) preventing you from locking the car.  Known issue, you could try putting some WD40 on the key blade and seeing if this frees the switch up - personally I wouldn't spray WD40 into the barrel but if you're brave you could try.  Failing this its a garage job to sort.

Windows could be as Shocco says or there was an issue with early GTI's that were randomly dropping windows and the problem was fixed with a software update.

update... had to lock the doors with the key before and now it seems like the interlock is stopping the key from going fully in. both key fobs dont seem to be doing anything.HELP cant get into car

To be honest its more likely that the lock barrel is frozen (assuming you have the bad weather there) rather than the interlock preventing you from putting the key it.  Try some de-icer in the lock and then some WD40.  It probably never been used before either so will be stiff.

I got the car open this morning must have been the frost but for the windows going down and the lights/stereo not turning off ill need to take it into the garage.
