fuel consumption question before i buy a car

would you guys say that a 1.8 8v that has been bored to a 2.1 would use a fair bit of fuel?

More likely this is a 2.0 bottom end with a diesel crank as I thnk that's the way to go 2.1, pretty sure you can't just bore a 1.8 to a 2.1.

All that aside it will be thirstier but it all depends on what else has been done.

the 205 is great i just want a golf again

i do a 125 mile round trip to uni and back most days of the week and if its going to cost more than £20 a day i cant afford to run it, the 205 gti does it on about £17-18 thats pushing it used to do it in less than £15 in normal cars lol

Mines a TSR 2.0 and it has a serious drinking problem and always has done.

Alot of people on this forum have been reporting mpg in the mid 30's though on more 'standard' engines but I guess it all depends on how heavy your right foot is

Well my old Digi 8v's used to pull 40mpg if driven carefully. Even my 1.9, flowed head, mental cam 8v will pull 35mpg on a good day (although being stripped out it does have a weight advantage).

35 would be a dream come true for me, I think mine is in need of some serious tuning though.
It absolutely stinks so it must be running mega rich. Rubjonny thinks my ignition timing is out aswell judging by the symptoms I described. This would have a pretty big impact on mpg wouldnt it.

I can get an average of 32mpg out of the VR6 if I pretend Miss Daisy is in the back

so if the head and cam aren't that larey it should be ok,

i could live with 35mpg, i know you can get near 40 out of a standard 8v

On long motorway journeys, I usually get about 42mpg on my 8v digi, and that's hustlin down the outside lane. Driving carefully (~65mph) I can average 47mpg.

On short journeys, mpg suffers, generally 20-36mpg.  This is going by the mfa guage, but on the 3 occasions I've checked it, it's been pretty much spot-on.

I know what crank they use 

83.5 bore with a lot of work to the block for clearance, I was working there when we built the first one.

Which crank is it bud? I'm 99% sure I've read you can use the diesel one (although from which derv I have no idea).
