Couple of issues.

Had my radiator replaced the other day but what I thought was a good mechanic, only to find the mfa displaying jargon, and the rev counter not working. He played about with the battery a bit, but that's all I know. Any ideas?

In addition to that, he also managed to break my bonnet hinge so the bonnet decided to flip up whilst I was doing 50mph. Not cool. As a result, the two rear bonnet hinges are bent to f**k. I searched this site and google on how to remove the hinges, and where I can get replacement ones to no avail. Can anybody shed some light on this?

Reset the mfa by pulling the fuse out (where the drivers right knee is, fuse #21 i think?, there is a key on the other side of the panel).

Then i would try to get your mfa to function as a digital rev counter to see if its the clock thats broken or the sender. There is a 'secret mode', here are instructions for how to enable it: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=33253.0

If that reads 0 or '---' then check the rev sender, i think its located somewhere on the gearbox.

Fuse #3 is the one to pull if your hazard switch is on the dash (pre 89). The rev sender pulse comes from the coil not the gearbox. If a post 89 model, hazard on steering wheel, I think fuse 21 does the rev counter as well, it did on my 16v.

Your probably best off looking for people breaking mk2's in the for sale section with things like that.

scrappy ...hindges should just unbolt under the plastic panel 'if you got 1' you might find that the bonnet may be twisted aswell 'hope not for your sake'

this happened to me in  ireland in an old fiat uno but the bonnet actually smashed the window scared the bejesus out of me.  good for air flow tho

Dave.. have you unbolted the hinges before? Was digging around earlier and couldn't find any bolts, let alone see any.
