Both Speedo and Petrol Gauge not working
« on: 04 January 2010, 10:32 »
Hi guys, hope you can help...

I've read many posts here, but none relevant to both of my problems coinciding with each other. Both my speedo and petrol gauge have started playing uo at the same time. My speedo has stopped working completely, and my petrol gauge seems to have a mind of it's own! It goes up and down quite sporadically!

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi.. It may just be the freezing conditions having effect on these,
My dash lights were only working on one side the other day, a little tap and they came back on..
What with that and frozen locks! hehe..
Having said that i've known my fuel guage to drop regardless of tank level or  conditions..rights itself after a while,
See how you go..

Cheers Christo, thanks for you reply.

i probably would normally put it down to the cold, but I had my clutch replaced about 4 weeks ago and wondered if it may have anything to do with that? Any ideas... anyone?

I can't think it would have anything to do with your clutch replacement, they may have disconnected the battery leads while the work was being done that's all..
You could try an ecu reset..or just get under the bonnet and check around at any relevant cabling/connections

Thanks again. i just wondered if there was anything that could've come loose/been affected during the clutch removal process. I will indeed try and have a look as soon as the weather eases off a bit!

Welcome there..
Yes it's possible something could have been bashed or knocked..
For your fuel guage when you get to it..go take a look under the carpet in the boot, you'll see a circular panel, unscrew that and there you can look at the fuel pump and guage sender connections..give em a wiggle and or remove/clean with wd40..you might be lucky ;)

Speedo could be down to the sensor not being plugged back in.

Gauge seems ok now, but the speedo is still not working. Is there a sensor by the gear box that could've come loose? I did have the speedo going crazy the other night...all the way round then back, but that seems to have been a one off. Any more help/advice would be great.

Speedo could be down to the sensor not being plugged back in.

as wayne said, there is a 3 pin plug that goes on top of the gearbox, see if thats connected. if it is, then maybe the speedo sensor is faulty...
