Cleaning Monza II Shadows (made a gaffe)

Hello All,

I was giving my car its virgin hand wash today and made a huge error whilst cleaning the wheels.  I guess I scrubbed too hard with my cleaning mitt and ended up scratching the black areas pretty bad.  I almost panicked, but then remembered that I had some light polish solution.  Using that I managed to almost get rid of the scratches in between two of the "spokes".  I have a lot of work ahead of me to try and fix the rest of the damage though.  I would imagine that I marred the silver surface as well.  Is it okay to polish this surface too?

Very easy fix to have the paint repainted on the black surface, £30 max

If you have used a wash mitt surely its just the laquer that has been scratched ?
Just try giving them a really good wax polish, Monzas need a good coating of polish to help stop the moisture and salt getting into them and stop the dreaded whiteworm,
I use to wash and polish my wheels at least once a week,
it should be an easy fix to get the black area repainted if needed but a decent polish should sort it.

Having to worry about swirl marks on the wheels now? Another good reason to avoid Monza Shadows... As said, though, you should be able to polish the scratches out. Take a look at the detailing section on this forum, or try posting your question on www.autopia.org - what they don't know ain't worth knowing

I very much doubt you caused any damage with rubbing too hard. My best guess is that you has a stone or two or some grit in your mitt and thats what scratched it, or of course the alloys were thick in dirt that you didnt wash off the loose crap before washing. It's fine to polish the 'silver surface' For that I use Dodo Juice Supernatural fine cut metal polish. Also, ask this question in the detailing section for more help.

Kev, is that Dodo Juice metal polish suitable for painted finishes, because the Monzas have a clear laquer coat?

Yeah Kev treat the wheels just like the paintwork as they are really the same, (painted and or lacquered). Metal polish on the MK6 for exhaust tips only I reckon.

As for the OP, try some Autoglym or similar super resin polish as it will have a cutting agent in there that should help your scratches. As kev said, ask in the detailing section?
