is my mate telling fibs?...whats the coinsequinces
« on: 03 January 2010, 13:22 »
Freind of mine has 6 points, no ncb '2 accidents in last 5 years' 27 years old and got insured on a toyoata corolla 1.6 for about 450 fully comp from online and they never even asked for a photo copy licence or anything.

im 27 no ncb ,2 accidents in last 5 years, and a clean licence although i was banned nearly 5 years ago the points are now gone and i got quoted 800 tpft
They also wanted a photocopy of my licence etc...

I also got the same price for my golf mk2 gti 8v but when i called that went upto £1200 tpft. ... i was 100% honest

Has my freind been disshonest and not told the truth?

And they must have a way of checking your history with previous insurance companys as ive been told it all goes onto a national data base.

Is this true?

Its really p'd me off coz he doesnt work and his car is a pile of pooh.  I work hard everyday with a mk2 as perfect as possible with my limited budget and i feel like a monkey...

Dave

If your mate hasn't declared something then that's a material fact he's not told them about. This is non-disclosure and the company has every right to cancel the policy should they find out, which they will if he has an accident.

However, take a look at the cars: Toyota Corolla vs Golf GTi. Dull Jap rotbox vs Icon. Which is more likely to be stolen? That could be a reason for the price difference. Also is your car modified? I'm guessing as you're with Flux it probably is. It's unlikely that with modifications that you're likely to get anywhere near as good a price. Have you tried getting a quote from your mate's insurers? And if not, why not? And has he told you the complete truth as well???

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

I was there when he bought the insurance and when we got a quote.

It cost more for me to insure the rotbox than it did for the golf by £42.

No car isnt quoted as modifyed although it does have lowered suspention and a back box i didnt claim them as its parked on the drive with a blown head and crash damage..ie doesnt go anywhere i just wanted to keep it insured for fire and theift.

Im now with bell and it cost over £50 more to insure my girlfreinds 1.2 fiat punto than the golf 'weird'

Don't know if this will help but have you tried Brentacre???

My mate is 20 with Mk 2 with an engine conversion, full exaust system, coilover ETC and he pays £900 with everything declared.

May be worth a try.

I also insure a Mk 5 GTI with them at 20 and its 1300 with an accident and 1 yrs NCB.

i don't know why your prices seem to be coming in this expensive but there must be something within your details pushing it up.

I know it might be coming in more expensive than you were hoping but if thats as cheap as you can get it, you really should go for it. Rather than playing around with your details to get it cheaper (whether its claims, convictions on even a minor mod) coz if the underwriter found out they would declare you uninsured and then you could end up having a bill of thousands to pay, plus convictions. Then you would wish you did it properly and your insurance will be even more expensive next year just to top it off.

Just a heads up mate
