Flashing problem
« on: 17 October 2004, 23:18 »
when ever I try and flash the headlights nothing happens unless the headlights are on
any ideas  ???
now the story I was told is it's due to haveing an early type indicator stalk not the 88 spec it should have
but now I see how the flash is that don't sound very convinceing since they flash with the headlights on and the stalk does the same thing  ???
is there a relay for flash ?

and how the hell do you get the interior mirror out of a mk2  ???

i dont know about the lights sorry but the mirror just needs a good hard tug cos it is push fit. dont worry its metal so it wont break just yank it sort of back and down towards the rear seats

twist the mirror 90 degrees and it will come out easier

I find punching the mirror works well  ;D

as for your flashing problem I doubt it's the stalk. I've used all the stalks on my car and they've all worked fine. Started on early mk1 style ones and then only 89 spec ones and now mk3.

You could have a loose connection somewhere but it's hard to say.

btw, to fit the mk3 ones to a non-90 spec golf you have to change the ignition switch and change all the plugs which requires a lot of soldering.

well europarts should have a new stalk for me tommorow  ;D
but I doubt that'll cure it  :(
I rekon there is a dodgy relay so I'll swap them from the old golf and play  ;)

I think I've fixed my stupid heater valve though  ;)
I'll find out for sure tommorow when I refit it  :-X

it probibly doesnt on mine........ i only use the flash when people cut me up or dont move out of my way!!!

it may well be a relay........??

try vw vortex
they have forums i'm on there dont go on very often,
i have tried to go on the other day but it wont send me my password........

but they are pretty good on there....... american petrol heads.............. so i'm sure one of them may know the answer............. worth asking them........ they fixed my vr6 said it was the hall sender when it was drivng slow.... and they were right!!!!!!

they only have technical talk on there....... no vw chat....
so there bit more professional when it comes to problems...........
