But at nearly £37,000 (with options)

That's just ridiculous. I remember my father paying £1700 for his brand new MkI Golf back in 1975

Sounds promising, shame none of us will ever drive it unless we buy one!

So it looks like it's going to be good...

But at nearly £37,000 (with options) when an Audi S3 in as close a spec as you can get it will cost you £33500...it makes you wonder where the extra £3500 goes in the Golf R!

It had better be bloody good.

When I get myn you will be the first to now if its bloody good!

It doesn't look like they rave about the DSG
"the bipolarity of the gear box mapping is frustrating"
"in drive mode it's a bit too tardy,"
"So you slip the selector to sport to pep things up a bit, only to find it's a bit too lively"
Golf R (on order): 5dr, rising blue, 19", sat-nav, ACC, parking sensors, Bluetooth tel prep, cruise control, Lux pack, storage pack, rear airbag/seatbelt sensors..........BW07 confirmed Can't wait!

possibly but it's a shame to invalidate your warranty on your new £35+K car....

Obviously the EVO author might not be a fan of DSG in general... So biased review

The DSG map is the same on the MK6 GTI,

seems like the green people got involved when in Drive mode.

The Mk5 DSG is so much better mapped in the D mode!

You call it bias, I call it talking sense. DSG is for f**kin taxi driving homo's.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

"Some say he drives a Shopping car, and that his car dent was actually a beauty spot....all we know is he's called Captain Failboat"

But at nearly £37,000 (with options)

That's just ridiculous. I remember my father paying £1700 for his brand new MkI Golf back in 1975

I have no real problem with the £37,000+ cost of a high spec one....
Nor the £30,000 cost of a high spec GTI...

What I'm struggling with is the fact that spec a Golf R and S3 to as close as it's possible to get...and the Golf remains £3500 more expensive.
Same platform, engine, brakes, gearbox, transmission, performance etc (accepted the golf will probably have a better 'chassis')...very similar spec...how on earth do the maths work there?

I'm no Audi fanboy...I don't particularly like the S3...but I'm just bafflerd at the difference in cost over the brand that VAG tell you is the 'more premium' product. I don't get it.

Personally, I'd rather pay for the Golf R...
But that doesn't make the equation balance any easier!

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.
