About to Buy a MkVI
« on: 30 December 2009, 20:56 »
Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum and live up in Scotland - me and the wife are off to the VW dealer's tomorrow to sign up to a new Mk VI.  I wondered if you guys had any tips on what kind of discounts I could try and negotiate or anything else to look out for?

I'm going to order a White MkVI Gti (DSG), 5 Door, 18"Monzas, bluetooth etc.

I had a Mk V previoulsy and loved it.

Cheers, Stu

Hello there

I'm quite new to the forum also, all i can say is, GOOD LUCK. From what i saw and others on here, you will struggle to get a discount on the GTI.

The prices are due to rise on January 1st due to the VAT rise and also VW's price rise, about 4.5-5%, so i suppose you will be saving money in a way.

Which garage/dealer are you going to?
MK6 GTI, 3 door, candy white, 18" monza shadow, Xenons, RCD 510 w "dynaudio", sunroof, rear view camera, cruise control & free servicing.
Ordered 28/10/2009. BW07 confirmed. production complete 10/02/2010. Arrived at dealers 17/02/2010. Driving on a 10 plate 01/03/2010.

I just ordered my GTI as well and didn't get any discount though it's normal to get about 5-8% off here in Norway. The GTI in particular is overbooked and that's a problem for us consumers.   Even though there are extremely few GTI's over here and almost no one buys one it's still hard to get a discount. I can't blame UK though since I drive on the left side. Damn those german GTI consumers! hehe  Price on the GTI will go up about 1400 GBP after new years so I guess that's my "discount". Not a lot though considering I'm going to pay 55584 GBP for my GTI. :P

I wish you good luck. I hope you get a discount.

Even if you fail to get a % discount, try and get some options at cost price, we got 18"'s for £154 as the final sweetener before we bought. We also had 5% in July. A mate of mine is so impressed he is looking to swap out his Evo 9 for a GTI but struggling to get anywhere with the dealer I used.

Good luck, you've chosen a good car.    Ben
2019 MK7.5 GTi PP, 3dr, DSG, Indium Grey, Heated screen, Pan roof, 90% tints.

The only reason you would swap is fuel consumption. Performence wise the Evo is on another level

Back in the spring when the GTI was first launched, discounts were relatively easy to come by (I got 14% when I ordered May 1). However, from reading this forum it would now seem that discounts are all but impossible to get. I can only assume this is because VW now realise they can charge people more or less what they like for the car and they will still buy it. Good luck anyway.

I just ordered my GTI on Wednesday and visited
VW Ingrams Ayr
VW Arnold Clark Paisley
VW Verve Dalmarnock rd Glasgow
VW Verve Wishaw
Phoned Western cars Edinburgh
I ended up ordering the GTI  from Arnold Clark in Greenock where I got the best deal on my trade in. They beat everyone else by one and a half thousand pounds for my trade in. The salesman told me he can give a good price for the car or a discount but not both.
Pity you cant order today as of the first of January you have a 2.7% price increase.

Brokers offer the best deal only if you have no trade in. If you have a trade in I recommend Arnold Clark Greenock for the best deal in central Scotland.
Good luck

With all these scrapage schemes coming to an end, I think things will change a lot in 2010. Have a read of this.

Hey Guys,

Well - job done and order placed today.

Golf GTI (Candy White)
18" Monzas
510 Stereo and reversing camera
DSG
Winter Pack
Luxury Pack

Delivery - 30th March.

Info on the forum was right - no discount on the car but was able to get 750 more for my trade in than Parker's/Glasses value.  Also, got a 3 year servicing pack thrown in for free (worht about 300 quid).  Beat the 2.5% VW price increase by 12 hours, but could do nothing about the VAT.

Can't wait to get it now - 3 months is a long time to wait.

BTW - I called round every dealer in Scotland and all wouldnt budge on price - only Aberdeen gave me the value on the trade in and the service included!
