Ok just asked for a price from VW for a set of 16" Atlanta wheels as per the Golf SE and whilst they're happy to quote ( I won't put the figure here to save everyone draining their keyboard from all the tea they'd inadvertantly spit our when reading the figure) but they're comment was:

"I have looked into the fitting of 16" wheels scenario and all my systems indicate that 16" wheels are not suitable for the GTD, GTI or Golf R the GTD's are fitted with sports suspension etc, where as the golf SE, S, TWIST etc have standard suspension."

He then goes on to quote 17" Meribels as per the winter program.

Whats your thoughts Wheel disciples?

61 Plate GTD 5dr, Shadow Blue, 18" Charleston's, Flat Tyre Indicator, Cruise Control, Bi-xenon (With Dynamic Curve), Storage Pack, Winter Pack and RCD 510.

Not sure what difference the suspension should make, as long as wheels fit over the brakes I cant see the problem . .
