Engine Oil

The oil light has just come on in my mkv gti, stealers are quoting me £15 a litre, just wondered what your thoughts were on this or whether to go for something from halfords

£15 is a good price if its lonflife oil? Its normaly about 18quid for a liter . :undecided:

Yup I also use Castrol Edge, as mentioned above.
Try looking in Homebase though - I got it half price at Homebase in a promotion so stocked up! lol

Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

No thats not the one!! Its got be 504 spec or castrol edge 5-30 longlife oil !! The one that homebase is doing if you take a closer look at it says 10-40 on it ?? Hope this helps thanks Steve  :wink:

Just some info, you should NEVER let your engine oil get so low that it causes the oil light to come on. Make sure you check regularly via the dipstick and top up as required.

True.
Homebase do sell Castrol Edge 5w30 though - maybe it was just an in store promotion when I got mine...
