2.slow

Right this may sound stupid for this time of year but anywho!

About a month ago i removed my air filter from my Mk4 2.slow gti and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!
Ive put it back in now but i am definatly investing in a K&N/PiperX air filter after christmas.

The main difference i noticed was the way the engine rev's, with the filter in it seems to have to drag the rev's up but filter out it is about 100 times smoother! Ive also changed my oil to a far high grade so think that has possibly helpped

im afraid a k&n filter feels like a normal filter, not like no filter at all. but as a bonus it stops things getting sucked into your engine

at least you will have a k&n sticker for your car though  :afro:

Your filter is probably blocked, any new filter will improve the stuation.

I cannot believe anyone is daft enough to run a car without a air filter.

maybe your filter was dirty  , you should try to clean all the induction system(replace air filter , clean the throttle body ) i did it and it improves a lot .

an air filter is restrictive, be it a standard one or a k&n.

look at some of those big bhp jap cars. They take the filter off the turbo on the dyno and gain 50bhp!

We know that air filters are restrictive they are a neccessary evil if you want to keep sh*t out of your engine but a clean or new filter is not as restrictive as a dirty one, as it does its job of keeping sh*t out of the engine it will inevitably get clogged up.

A happy medium would be to buy a filter that you can wash out and re-use (I have a Pipercross one) so every so often you can clean it out thus keeping performance at it's peak but not filling your engine with crap.
