Bang from the gearbox
« on: 22 December 2009, 15:35 »
So I pull away from a set of lights in sport mode a bit quickly (no grid start) then come up to a fairly sharp bend so slow right down at which point the car jolts to a slower speed and makes a bang noise

sounded and felt a bit industrial (and wasn't anything on the road before you ask)

any ideas ?

Was it a loud, sudden bang, or more of a dull thud?

this will sound sarcastic (not meant to be) but a loud, sudden, thud.

They do that sometimes.  You have to learn not to baffle the fuzzy logic.  An industrial thud can come from driving slowly down a motorway then, when there are roads that deserve it, pushing it, and then braking for a roundabout.

yes I would agree with eggy on this one... just keep driving your car as normal, living in the hope that there is nothing wrong with your gearbox. hopefully the next time you hammer it, there will be no problems and it wont all out of the bottom of the car (or any of the other issues dsg users have had)

I did once hear this funny saying that prevention is better that cure. I guess that would mean taking it down to the dealers and getting it checked out beore it gets any worse and the dealers try to stcik you with a huge bill

I was going to say, I had this on a DSG I had for a week in autumn. When I asked one of the dealer technicians about it he said they all do it from time to time. No harm in getting your dealer to check it though.

The best solution of course is to buy a manual  :lipsrsealed:

It's a bit disconcerting though, isn't it. Surely 'incorporating occasional bangs' isn't in the design remit?

Think I will leave it and see if it happens again, it's a companycar anyway! Sorry to realize I have given the anti-dsg mob some more ammo !!
