« on: 15 October 2004, 10:30 »
I've got some small rust bubbles coming around the petrol flap >:(, how much of the area needs to be resprayed? just round the cap or do you need to do the whole rear panel?  :-\any idea on cost?

Unfortunately that's a classic weak spot on mk1 & mk2 golfs as cr@p builds up around the filler neck underneath the wheel arch. You'll need to take the surrounding area back to bare metal, remove the filler neck and get all the rust treated. I would think that the whole panel would need to be painted in order to blend the job in. I'd take the wheel off and give the area up round the filler neck a good clean and get some waxoyl on there quick.
Haven't got a clue on price but a rough guess would be about ?200+

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

dunno much about the spraying but id get it cleaned up in & around there asap. my old white rotted in there so much that it rotted the whole inner arch :o :o hence why i sold it ;)

just pull the rubber surround out from around the filler neck. then take the petrol cap off and stick a cloth in the neck instead.

this will give you enough access to clean all the crap from in & around it. also have a good prod in below the inner arch. if its anyway rotten u'll soon know!
