Your best bet dude would be to take the whole surround out and work with it while it's off the car
To do this, you need to remove the blanking plate to the left of the stereo and remove the screw behind it
Remove the blanking plate to the right of the stereo and remove the screw behind it
Prise the heater vents out with a flat headed screwdriver. Just wedge it between the vent and the surround and lever them out carefully
Undo the screws behind the heater vents
You may be able to pull the surround, complete with stereo, out of the dash, then unplug the stereo wiring, take it indoors where it's nice and warm, and then do what you need to do
Or you may need to remove the surround round the clocks aswell, I can't quite remember. This is easy enough though.
Pop out the blank/airbag light to the right of your headlight switch
Remove the headlight switch
This reveals a screw, undo this screw and then the clock surround will pull out towards you
