Jay, Ive had a '55 plate GTTDI from brand new for 4 years - it had a recall for the 6 speed box in about 2006/7 (potential fire related according to VW) and the diesel fuel pump went at around 70,000 miles (Very common fault on the 2.0tdi PD engine) I also had the dreaded white tarnishing on my alloys and center caps, this was common and some people claimed under warranty for them otherwise no other issues. Dont be shocked if it drinks oil, they can be quite thirsty, needing to be topped up every 2000 miles or so, its because of the oil used for the Longlife servicing. Very good car with good performance and generally cheap to run!
