The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

I don't think your windscreen isn't fitted properly, its probably just condensation that hasn't escaped and frozen over night.

I agree with the above.  Ice forms on the a/c evaporator when in use, this then thaws when its turned off.  It is this water vapour which then in turn condenses and freezes on the windscreen.  Nowt to worry about.

You shouldn't get ice on the AC evaporator if its properly charged with gas!!

I beg to differ, as after reading this thread today, I ran my a/c it went cold and the temp on the computer read 0.5 (it had been snowing)

Point to note however that the AC won't run if the outside temp is 5Deg C or less.

The air con runs to dry the air at really cold temps.  That author was talking pub.

I refer you all to the instruction manual which states below 5 Deg C the compressor will not run to protect itself from completely freezing up.  Perhaps this changed on later model years (mine is 05) but I can confirm there is no click or change in revs if I try and run mine at low temps.  There isn't two seperate modes of operation for drying and cooling, its one and the same.

You ran the a/c (and presumably turned the temperature down?) when the temp was 0.5 Deg C and cold air came out?! Stone the crows!

Lol just what I thought, it was cold air coming through your vents because it was frezzing outside . . .

Having thought about it, it makes perfect sense. All types of AC equiptment have a form of frost protection in them.

good point, it was freezing outside, that might explain it, but I heard the compressor running!
