Can anybody tell me how I tell which Golf TDi is a 110, 115, 130 or 150? I’ve found that some of the 150’s advertised seem to be a different model or the owner isn’t sure. When I HPI’d it (RAC) the 150 I went to view at Bradford it didn’t give those details, it even said it was a 5 speed when it was a 6. One insurance company give me a quote for it thinking it was a 130 and another company thought it was a 150.

The best thing you can do is check the engine code. Go into the boot and lift the carpet and the engine code should be on a white sticker. Its also on the engine, on the cam belt cover(?)

The 115, 130, and 150s all had a 6 speed box. These engines were PD engines. You can also tell they are PD engines by the engine cover. You can pop the cover off, but the non-PD engines (90, 110s) you had to remove a few screws to get it off. They also have 5 speed boxes.

The 130s also came with an arm rest as standard. 150s came with walnut  :sick: trim like the GTi 1.8T.

There have been confusions in insurance company's mucking up the models. Mine come up as a 150 and I can assure you its not.

Engine code is pretty much the only way to verify what you're looking at

AHF = 110bhp
AJM = 115bhp
ASZ =130bhp
ARL = 150bhp

Looking for this code in the spare wheel well on the white sticker, side of the engine block or the front of the service book

Cheers guys.

Perfect, just what I'm looking for. Eyes pealed for a ASZ on the sticker then :wink:

Is the TDi colouring different on each model like some Renaults? I know this is no good when buying a car as it's too easily changed but funny at the lights when you leave an unsuspecting chav with your R-Tech remap and other mods :grin:

GT TDI's are pretty much GTi spec in that they have body coloured rub strips, door handles, door mirrors etc

S & SE models had black rubstrips and handles

And ignore the badges on the back too  :wink:

The 150s also have the better suspension set up.

Yeah badges mean noting. Dealers put what they wanted on them.

But the 150's are rare, expensive and are more likely to have been given a hard time than a 130. I'll probably find a better model of 130 than 150 simply due to availability and post R-Tech there will be very little difference. Would you agree?

Yes but they can remap quite a bit higher. The do have a somewhat higher price tag on them because of the fact they are rarer than the others. I only looked at the 130 when I got mine. Even the 130s are rare in my area.

R-Tech say that some of the 130's can map better than the 150's so I'm determined not to get hung up on the 150's. I’m sure you know as well as anybody a remaped 130 is not to be underestimated :cool:

I wonder if they would do the typically desired Vagcom and Vagtacho mods too
VAGCOM
1) Auto Lock
2) Auto Unlock
3) Beep On Lock
4) Remote Windows

VAGTACHO
1) Miles To Empty
2) Illuminated Needles

Speak to Topher (Chris) nicely and I'm sure he'd sort those out for you :afro:

Food for thought i have seen 190bhp from my 130......though that was on R-Tech's rollers running what Nick thinks is slightly unrealistic software so they went back to a previous version which I then saw 177bhp with a knackered intercooler

Roll on January 10th........
