Oh you are awfull... No thats my average over the 1200 miles as in 49 MPG.. DOH!!

Just curious that's all. Need some info to keep me occupied as the wait is such a long time. Having just sold my R32, i don't think fuel is much of an issue for me.

Ahh, ok - fairy 'nuff...!

The GTD seems a good compromise, but you'll miss the petrol engine, you know...

Don't know what mine does, just fill up with V Power when its empty

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

Thats the best way to do it, just enjoy :D

The TSI engines are miles better than any of the other hot hatches (ST, VXR, Renault Cups Cars) in terms of MPG, just ask an ST owner what sort of MPG they get, will make you feel much better :)

I love a petrol engine but there's Jags and BMWs out there that can beat a GTI in drag race and easily beat it's mpg.
Currently digging a bunker.

In my DSG GTI I typically get 26-28mpg per the MFD. This is mostly urban driving with little motorway work. Works out to around 300 miles per tank.

If I am on the motorway then mpg is about 36-38.

All this on optimax, 2800 miles on the clock.

If you are that bothered about fuel consumption, a GTI isn't for you.
You do have to evaluate such things though imo i used it too work out how much a year extra a petrol would cost me over a deisel.

My figures brim to brim average over the same route over 6 month period, These including a commute into town early but back out in rush hour.
Mk1 1.8 GTI 38mpg average
Mk5 2.0 GTI TFSI manual 33 mpg average.
Mk5 2.0 GTI TFSI DSG 29 mpg average.
Mk5 2.0 TDI 140 manual 43mpg average.
Mk6 2.0 GTI TSI i wish i knew but it is suppose to be a bit better than the mk5.

Would be interesting to see where my GT TD will be in 4 months with 49mpg at the moment..

Evaluate? Yes. Let it completely guide your decision?

No... well, in my humble opinion.  :nerd:

Diesels historically hit peak efficiency between 10K-20K miles IIRC - Petrol engines at maybe 5K?

FWIW, I get just over 500 miles per tank (excluding reserve) with a GTD/DSG (have had around 630 once, all motorway and Cruise Control dominant!).  Used to get around 300 per tank with a Mk5 GTI.
