Mk5 17inch Monza alloys
« on: 13 December 2009, 17:19 »
I have had my Golf for nearly 2 years and in this time on 4 occasions the centre caps from the alloys have fallen out, has anyone else had this prob and any suggestions how to stop this happening as its very annoying!!?

I spoke to them at a VW Garage n they said its a common prob as when brake pads heat up it can loosen round where centre cap is and it can fall out when goin over a bump etc

Had the same problem with my GTI but with the 18" monzas, dealer said it was a common problem. I would also be interested if anyone has a solution

Just an idea but...

Put double sided sticky tape around the rim of the cap on the inside? When you take whees off put new tape on. Will stop them falling out as more friction.

Super glue would be overkill

A few dabs of clear silicone sealant on the inside, there the fixing clips bits are, does the job.
Easy to get the cap off again too...but flexible enough to resist shocks/bumps and keep the caps in place.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.
