Agreed. Mudflaps just do not make sense, either financially or aesthetically. If the roads are dirty enough for them to protect the lower part of the doors (which I'm sure they do) then the rest of the car is going to get filthy anyway from lorry spray, etc.

Well thats it, some things you cant control (lorry spray etc) but some things we can try and prevent like road splashes on up the door so the guards should help with that. In the winter months I dont think those are the months you show a car off anyway, the late warm summer nights when it gets dark at 11pm etc is the evenings you show the car off and I'll take the guards back off in those months anyway.

I'd think carefully about mudflaps, especially on the front where, iirc, they're mated against metal bodywork and not the plastic of the rear bumper. The Mk3 I traded in had incredible rot in just this location - the mud, water, salt, leaves and crap had sat there between them for years. Just a thought.

To fix these properly you do need to put a couple of holes in the car, you might want to re think the put on take off bit..

do you need to drill the metal wing or just the plastic arch lining?

I'm thinking about getting some front mudguards to keep the stone chips down as much as possible!!
