Just spoke to the garage and he says to his memory the service history shows last service by VW at 121K when the cambelt was changed. It’s now at 151K. Could this be a big no go? Asking price is £2,985.

EDITED

you got another 20K before the cambelt is due another change; its every 60K

see if you can get a cambelt and waterpump out of them first if possible.

or see if they will meet you halfway and supply the parts if you cover labour or vice versa

Doesn't sound like they'll be willing to do any labour on it as the driver side wing mirror has a crack in it which he says he doesn't have time to get repaired but could sell a replacement for £30

What about the service interval?

Mine's been done every 50K mind; previous owner did it early so I did it again at 100K - they even replaced my auxillary belt for free too  :smug:

So would 30K between services be enough to put you off buying this car? :undecided:

jesus!! 30K between an OIL change??   AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oil change should be every 10K; max of say 18-20K if it was on longlife servicing but IMO anything above that is asking for trouble!!

It may have been serviced in fairness but it's not included in the service history. Could have had a non dealer service?

even non-dealers normally stamp the service book mind  :undecided:  can they provide proof of a service being carried out?? If not I'd walk away

There's not enough service history there for me - there are better cars out there with less mileage I'd reckon. This one has too many question marks for my liking.  :nerd:

Keeping schtum. Mostly.
