cabriolet roof lining

hi all

need a new roof lining and hood on my cabby   cant afford the hood at the mo

anyone know iany for sale cheap ish or a place that will do them new with a roof   

i would idealy like to have the roof and lining fitted by professionals at the same time but moneys short 

i need  to know somewhere that will do it cheap but still properly   around east anglia  as close to lowestoft as possible

and also what kind of price would i b lookin at for the roof lining a mohair hood and the fitting charge if u could id like the seperate prices as i may have to buy the lining an hodd seperatly then get them fitted later on

there's a company on ebay that do them iirc they were an extra 100 quid with the new roof, when  i rang them it was 500 for mohair roof new lining and mobile fitting service, they were based in croydon
alternatively give car hoods northern a ring, only heard good things about them

i think your better off getting the whole lot done at once, maybe worth suffering the lining until you can afford it?

hood was 180 lining 100 fitting 200 iirc, dunno about lowestoft tho mate bit out of the way, may as well be in darkest peru

car hoods northern...as in the ones who scratched my paintwork and my hood hasn't been the same since...I personally wouldn't use them ever again

Guy was quoted £635 from the fellas in Chessington for the hood and headlining replacement - fitted

headliner is actually pretty easy in comparison to outer hood, just has a few strips of fabric hooped over some bars in the roof and secured with contact adhesive.  I think you might be able to manage with hood still on, though if the insulation pad is damaged it will likely just fall to bits inside the car which would be bad

I've made a new insulation bag as well, that bit is quite time consuming so unless you can find off the shelf its best to leave a couple days to do it. plus obv need to have somewhere undercover to store the car!

dont forget 3 new tension cables sides, and be aware the side ones changed over the years so verify waht you have.

I did a complete hood refurb over 2 days, that included an unforseen change of hood frame due to lots of hidden rust and a headliner swap as the one on the replacement frame was shafted!  I was lucky I had a complete spare hood frame 'in stock' otherwise I'd have been a bit buggered!

If I were you, I'd get on the MK1 owners club and keep your eyes on the for sale section, you often see complete good hoods & frames going.  A complete hood swap is pretty damn easy, only a few bolts hold it to the car at the back and you just have to tap the hood into the slot around the back of the car. Days work tops!  The MK1OC also has an excellent hood replacement guide in PDF format, handy to have even if you only end up swappin a complete frame over

how long would a company take to fit it all   

i dont mind travelling maybe 100miles to get it done but i would need it done that day so i could get home again lmao



also is it possible to get new insulation stuff inside as my roof has a slash in and id say its probally a bit mouldy inside 


but i spose if i can get a complete hood with frame etc as jonny says and fit it myself in a day it mite pay me to do that

 how hard are the tension cables to change as if i get the complete roof id want to change the cables just so i know none of them r rusty and goin to break

i think most companies do it within the day providing there are no issues [ rotten rear window frame usually the biggest ]

it is easier to get complete frame and hood fitted but they are usually snapped up very quickly when they come up for sale, usually there is something wrong with them i.e. frame good hood f00ked or other way round

the hood fitting companies can usually supply everything including padding

when i get the money i will be getting new stainlees rear frame from cq and getting mohair and new headlining my insulation pad is all good atm, im budgeting about 700 for everything
