Is Autoglym worth £299 from dealer???
« on: 09 December 2009, 17:47 »
Hey all

Just wanted a quick opinion on whether anyone recommends autoglym for £299 done by the dealer? I have read other threads, but i am still unsure!

I dont mind buying the products and doing it myself, although i am a n00b when it comes to this level of detailing!

thanks in advance!

M

Me personaly i would prefer to do it myself!! Its not worth it 300 pounds for that . Buy yourself a decent wax (collinite) which last upto 6 months. Also at least you will know that your car has been done properly piece of mind. I think its a bit of a con myself these coatings of perma wax?? Bring your car to me and I will do for you nothing!! Love detailing new car's thanks Steve30

Cheers for the feedback mate! i was opting towards spending that money and doing it all myself, even though it will be a bit of a learning curve, but thought i would just make sure, as i am due to pick my car up on monday.

haha, i am in London n all this weekend, if only had it in time, would of made a visit to you then  (haha - nice gesture Steve!)

I'd also recommend buying products and doing it yourself. If you haven't already, take a look in the Detailing section for product info and advice.

Definately do it yourself.

If you enjoy your detailing and like to keep your car looking like new, then have a look through the detailing section for some advice and tips.

If you only wash your car now and again, but want it to look somewhere near, then get your own perma wax type product and either do it yourself, or get someone to help. Supagard for example is usually around £5 on ebay.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Do not let some grease monkey rub a gritty sponge over your new paint! Do it your self and look after your paint

Yes I agree , there are some Pri1cks who work in these dealerships and end up scratching the paintwork (swirlmarks) esp if its black. When I get my Mk6 , I will be asking them not bother cleaning the car on the PDI. I will do it myself and my own detailing. I was in a dealer's the other day and was shocked at some of the paint work on the new motors  on show . The response I got from the salesman was yea must be the valeting department that did it, (very poor) 30,000 pound car ?? Thanks Steve 30

Having looked at the red GTI in the showroom yesterday, and having rejected a car in the past for swirled paintwork on delivery, i'm wondering whether to ask the delaer not to bother prepping mine.  I did check out some of their other stock and it did look fine (incl a black Polo) so the GTI could have been doing the rounds of various Inchcape dealers and incured lots of dry dusting in showrooms.

Does anyone know what state the car arrives at the dealers in ? - i assume there is film on the bonnet/roof , alloy wheels and some foam protectors on the doors which are low tack affairs.  If this is the case then i'm happy to wash, clay, polish and wax myself, but if its covered in cosmoline as well then thats a bugger to shift without solvent washing.

Also if they don't prep it i assume it wont be in the showroom for collection, just parked ont he lot outside so more difficult to pick up any issues, especially if its raining !

Anyone collected a car without prep ???
