2.0 slow oil top up, which oil???

My oil light has come on in my 2.0 gti. which oil is best to use and how much do i put in for a top up. any help is much appreciated.

A good quality 10/40 will be fine.

Why have you waited for the light to come on? 

Depends how low you have let it get

Iv been busy lately and have sadly neglected it. the light has jus come on today, about 20mins ago on way home from work 
saving up till after xmas now to get the 1.8t and tht definately wont be neglected.

filled my oil up now, its about a millimetre over the a mark on the dipstick. Does this matter???

Should be ok but its never good to overfill the oil level

No probs worth noting the 2.0 8v uses a fair bit of oil and this is normal
