RCD 510 with SD card - slow
« on: 08 December 2009, 13:19 »
Got an RCD 510 with Dynaudio (sounds fantastic BTW) - all works fine with MP3 CDs and via USB. However with a 16GB SD Card the RCD 510 takes forever to start up (Please Wait...) - usually done half my journey before it springs into life (seriously takes about two mins). And does this every time you start the card. Annoying. Anyone any experience of this - would a better SD card help ? Any other ideas ?

Are you storing songs to Individual folders say albums of up to 40 songs, Or are you adding everything into one big folder of 1000+ songs, The latter will cause a very long loadout, Mine turns on more or less then second I hit SD card

Everything in folders arranged by album - so no massive folders at all...

Half your journey is 2 minutes?!?
Mine was taking 20 minutes to boot into life. I discovered it was because I had folders with artist names, then inside it had Albums.
I had hundreds of different artists and hence why it took so long.

I took all the Album Folders out and it now boots in around 20 seconds which is a hell of a lot better but not instantaneous which is quite annoying every time you have to start the car up.

sounds like a smaller SD card is the only answer...

Mk6 Golf GTI 5dr, DBP, Monza Shadow, Xenons, ACC, RCD510, Park Assist, Camera, Lux pack.... and now bluetooth.... and now DSG!

When you consider up untill 5 years ago computers only came with 6 to 10 gb hard drives, trouble is we now want everything to happen in a instant,16gb of data is quite alot for a car stereo to handle i use a 2gb card with 35+ large albums on it and have no problems.
Golfgti build quality is average at best.

I tried a 4GB SD card against a 16 GB USB stick and found the USB stick was a smidge quicker to load / access, although both were very quick. The USB sticks are a bit cheaper, too.
