hmmmmmm
« on: 12 October 2004, 12:59 »
I have been a silly boy!

I put some chrome catches on the motor yesterday (with a stinking hangover).

Put the drivers side on fine but the passenger side went wrong a little. I shut the door but it would appear that something has become disconnected inside. How can I open the door or will I have to dive around like the dukes of hazard for all of eternity!

I will be at NR in fleet on weds so please can someone sort me out cos this will do my nut!!

Cheers

Doug

it'll be a bit tricky but you'll pobably have to take off the door card and release it from the inside, cant think how else you'd do it to be honest.

that wasn't very helpfull was it??!! sorry ::)

I've got an idea.  Take off the door card on the opposite side so you can see the door pull opening mechanism thingy, (Locking rod) then get and old coat hanger or some other type of wire, to slide between the window and the seal

Fashion/bend the one end of the wire until you are able to grab the locking rod wire, or flick up the part the rod is attached to.  Once you know how deep you have to put the wire in to grab the rod, you can mark it with a bit of tape.  Then you can try and unluck the side you locked

I've seen some AA guys do it.  When they think that the wire is where they want it, they give it a quick hard tug.  Hahaha, I think thats what they doing. ;D

wind the winda down and take the lower rubber and metal window trims off the outside, you should then have a fair gap to peer down, might help ya see what the problem is!

Uhm, on second thoughts it wont be the locking rod will it.  It'll be the pull rod from the handle....Doh.

You might have detached the pull rod from the lock somehow, when you were putting the new catch on.
Sounds like a trip to the scrap yard for a replacement card  (you'll have to break through) unless you can undo those 4 screws.  Or atleast undo the 2 at the lock end (Long nose pliers?) and squeeze a hand in to get the rod to pull the latch that will open the door.

Or have you fixed it allready?

if the door is unlocked then you could open it by pushing down on the cam inside the mechanism. take the handle off your good door and see how it works inside the door skin then you will unederstand what im saying!

Can you not take the doorcard off from the inside Doug?
