Strange one!
« on: 07 December 2009, 20:23 »
I've got a really strange issue with my GTI (06 manual, standard spec).

When the econ button is on (light illuminated) the aircon is on

When the econ buttons is off (light off) the aircon is off.

As I understand it, this is the wrong way round and causes issues e.g. when turning the quick windscreen clear on it actually turns the aircon off.

Anyone ever heard of this happening or is my car a freak?!

Daft question, but do you press the auto button like me to get the air-con/climate control to come on?

No, the auto button is separate - above the Econ button - is that what you're asking?

Is it possible when the aircon compressor was replaced that it was incorrectly wired - so the switch is working in reverse? - just thought!

The newer MK5's have a button marked AC, which when the light it on means its on and when its off means its off.  Not like the backward econ button when the light is on the AC is off etc.

Just get hold of the newer button and pretend its meant to be like that.

Cheers, that's a good suggestion, however then I still have the problem of the quick-clear for the windscreen turning it off when it should turn it on.

Does anyone know if it is possible that when the AC compressor was replaced it was wired the wrong way round so the switch acts backwards?

Cheers!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that. It's just a backwards way of doing it and always anoyed me lol

I normally leave mine off (on lol) to be honest (unless I'm in traffic).

Sun roof and windows down in the summer is the only way to do it
