Fantastic car, but... think very hard about the 3 door as I've had loads of problems with the seat  tilt\slide memory thing (i.e when tilting it slides forwards and then back to where it was). Major pain if you need frequent access to the back (i.e kids).

But... love the car, and for me this is the first time I've ever bought another example of the same car (just got a mk6 gti on order) as in the past always got something different.
100% totally recomend GTI mk5. In fact I was trying to find another mk5 in 5 door but couldn't get the right spec hence opted for a new mk6, but would have been totally happy with a mk5 again!

Recomend getting cruse control (as read that you can actually get it retrofitted for about the £200 mark).

Have you thought about an AA\RAC inspection as it's an indi gararge?

not really a problem for me as im single with no kids so its very rare i have more than 1 other person in the car :-D  just the odd occassion giving lifts to mates etc.

was funny right after test driving the gti i went and had a drive in my mates £500 proton satria 1.3 - NOW THAT WAS AN EXPEREINCE TO BEHOLD.

I'm sorry but ex-rental?

I don't care if it's from a VW dealer I wouldn't touch that with barge pole.

It'll have been thrashed to hell and back particularly with no concern for the oil temp.

True, any car could have been, but an ex-rental WILL HAVE BEEN!

Think about it, if you rent a car for a short term period, will you look after it?

If you buy an expensive car, will you look after it?
