Why do people change when they see the Gti badge????
« on: 05 December 2009, 11:31 »
Just been driving back from Hull after a trip away to Brugge with the girlfriend. Whilst driving home we passed though Doncaster when so nob in a scirocco got the hump cause he was stuck behind someone and we passed him. God knows why but he made it his mission to get infront again. Thing was however they were quite a few cars in each lane so nobody could speed or overtake etc. This prick did though!!!!! Causing people to heavy break, cutting people up and just being far too dangerous.

I never took to bait and just drove with the traffic. Everytime we caught him up and he saw us his foot went down again and honestly nearly wrote off 8 cars in the process mine included!!

Really f**ks me off tits like this cause one day he'll either kill someone or himself.

It always seems to Be cars of equal spec or lesser models who try to prove a point.

Hope he writes his (golf) off whoever it was!!!!!

I understand where your coming from. May his habbit be his downfall!
I got this today, from a red 4 door golf gti in Crawley. I was at the roundabout on the inside lane waiting to pull off from it, he then comes stopping harsh up in the righthand lane blocking my view in the rain than darts off!- Very sensible!.....Is there competition in every mk5 gti?.
I just want to get to my destination safely, we're allready in nice cars, do we really need to show off!

Yep, had it from some sh!tty nova or something the other day on the way back from the office. Because I managed to sweep past him when the lights went green, then pulled into his lane - he and his moron hooded mates, got the hump. So he drove up my arse flashing his beams, so I just pulled into the other lane, where he then (to impress his moron mates) started to swerve left and right towards my car.

So I just booted it though a gap, took off into the distance and turned off and back on myself. I figured, I'd rather take a long way home than have these dicks crash (into either me or someone else).

You just get used to it..

had some polish dude in his vectra gsi cut infront and slam on yesterday, then give me the middle finger, now i can understand needing to cut in when u realise your in the wrong lane, but to do it deliberately and then swear at someone???

I just used my nut to get infront of him and gave him his own medicine. Was quite funny to see the look on his and his pikey girlfriends face as they realised they were getting a does of their own medicine..  i then left him at some red lights to vent this anger... job done

Another thing I don't get is when you are pottering along at the speed limit in the correct lane and the person who has been doing the same behind you suddenly gets the idea to overtake then sit 2 ft in front of you. I have a GolfGTI.co.uk sticker in my back window and it seems that whenever someone behind me sees it they MUST overtake. I wouldn't mind if they kept on going or I was going a bit slow but when it's just for the sake of getting past the car that says GTI on it somewhere it's sad  It is kinda funny that the mk5 isn't a GTI or even a replica and people still have that reaction.
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

I can assure you it 's not just GTI's. I was joining the motorway near me yeaterday in my Mapped GT 2.0 TDI. There were 2 slip lanes leading onto the motorway and I was in the inside one. To the right of me was a van that was struggling to get up enough speed (god knows why he was in the outside of the 2 lanes) and behind him some chavs in a brand new Audi TT. You could just about get a fag paper between the TT and the Van, and the TT kept flashing his lights at the van.

Anyway, I accelerated, leaving the van and chavs behind and joined the motorway. This must have incensed the driver chav, who then violently yanked the car to the left lane (which was my lane) over the hatched lines, cutting another car up in the process, then speeding after me. When they caught up, the driver was actually leaning out of the window, screaming "come on then, you f**cking b**tard, if you think your fast" and kept accelerating up the inside of me, then braking to come back level and so on !

Perhaps he should have kept an eye in his rear view mirror instead, as I had seen the cop car joing from back at the entry slip road (which is why I didn't take up Mr. Chav's very kind invitiation for a race). I tell you, you have never seen the face on such a smug g1t drop so quickly when the blue lights came on behind him. I left him signalling to pull onto the hard shoulder with a traffic car behind him (result).

Thing is though, I have absolutley no idea what set him off. I wans't the one blocking him off ? Although he was coming from Liverpool so maybe he had "borrowed" the car (apologies to all from Liverpool for the gross stereotype).

You get people trying to race you in the GTI becuse most people who own a GTI will be ethusiastic about driving and going fast so they think you might fancy race. Seems logical to me. Either ignore them and let them be or (as I often did) clearly show your faster and then just let them go in the safe knowledge that you proved your point.

As for people driving like a complete tool as the person in the orginal post described, well you get that with any car you drive.

There is a time and a place for "pressing on", unfortunatley most people choose the wrong time and the wrong place and it ends in tears. I think there's definatly a skill to being sensible and knowing when to just let someone by. I've found most GTI owners know this.
