Point me in the right direction
« on: 04 December 2009, 14:21 »
Hi Guys got a Tornado Red MK6 and want to keep it looking 100% for the time I have it.

Presently I use Simonize car wash to clean the car after soaking it, then I put Mer into water and wash the rinse down again. T finish off I now have some Collinite 476 wax which I apply round the car a bit at a time (winter) over say the bonnet 1 week then side, boot, side and start again.

Always like a clean car but now I have a golf I want a clean and fab looking car 100% of he time.

so I'm thinking when the old shampoo and Mer run out to get these to bolster my collection. Any other advice.

The Meguiar's Gold Class is a good shampoo, also have a look at Dodo Juice Born to be Mild. I always seem to recommend this shampoo on here but it really is an excellent product.

Red Mist is a great product for topping up your protective layer in between waxing, and also leaves a great finish, just make sure your wax layer has completely cured before using the Red Mist.

Again, you have picked a good product in Colly 476.

Basically I can't really argue with the products you are already using. I've never tried Mer so can't comment on that. Maybe someone else can?

Hven't tried the dodo shampoo, but I reckon this was a deal better than the megs gold (which I've used for a while now).

The Red Mist is for in between waxes. I've used Mer in the past and I can't see the advantage in using it after shampooing the car prior to waxing. You could try and use another Dodo Wax and keep the Colly for the winter/colder months. I do notice however you don't mention polishing.

Ah yes the Mer - that threw me as you put into the bucket (which you can) rather than applying by hand. For a polish try Poorboys or Clearkote Red Moose.

Meguiar's No. 7 Glaze will really set the red off, however you could still do with a polish in there, maybe something like Dodo Juice Lime Prime or Poorboy's Professional Polish.
