Insurance for re-mapped GTIs
« on: 03 December 2009, 02:02 »
Anyone care to comment on the sort of quotes thay are getting for a re-mapped GTI?
How much of a premium, over standard, for example?

Or are people 'forgetting' to inform their insurers?

What about other mods...wheels, exhaust, etc...?

I got a quote for a standard car yesterday at twice what it was a month ago (£500 vs £220)...and they wanted to double it again for re-mapped (£1000) - with some of the few companies that would quote...and they wanted additional Thatcham Cat 1 / Tracker.
Sod that for a game of soldiers.

For an old fart, with 12+ years NCD, no points, one accident (nearly 5 years ago) and living in one of the lowest Postcode areas in the UK, with the car in a locked, alarmed garage...I thought it was a bit steep.

My 911 was hundereds less...

Anyone care to suggest a few 'mod' friendly Insurers I can have a chat with?

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

I had a good search round to see who could accommodate a remap and larger wheels. The best quote i could get was £2300 (4yrs ncb + driving for 11yrs + 8 points :lipsrsealed:)

Went back to my current insurer Kwickfit and they said they would do it for £1200 iirc. Actually bringing down my insurance... happy days

When I was young and naive, I modded almost every car I bought! Thinking back, I am lucky I did not have any big bump. Not sure whether insurance will pay if they find out what I had done to my car (Gasflow heads, camshafts, exhaust, big wheels, chip etc...!)
Nowadays, I tend to leave my daily drive bog standard and spend my hard earn cash on a decent sunday car/s ! Saying this, I am tempted to remap my Golf but I am concern voiding my car+GAP insurance and warranty! I hope I can resist this temptation!

Very pleased esp when the best quote I could get was nearly double that... being 29 and having points probably doesnt help, I also live in a pro crime spot for vehicle theft
