Bye Bye GTI
« on: 01 December 2009, 18:38 »
After nearly a month of trying to reject my new GTI with the VW main dealer its finally happened. He's told me they will take the car back and order a new one(told me march for delivery )

The problem with the car all started when it got delivered with swirls marks all over, so got a pro detailer out to remove them. To cut a long story short i had him back out as he didn't remove all them but was told by him when he came back out the car had twice as much paint on it (over 230 in some places on the paint thickness gauge) and he coudn't get them out as he was making them worse. So it went from there to the dealer and when i didn't get anywhere from the dealer i spoke to VW UK who told me the car has had 2 PAINT REPAIRS on the car. It's supossed to be BRAND NEW!

So went to the dealer, mentioned this and they couldn't be more helpful and are going to order me a new car.

The car is red but am thinking of ordering white, has anyone got white and what do they think of it or has anyone picked a colour and wish they hadn't picked it?

Hello mate , I have had 2 black gti's which swirl really easy after cleaning then I had a Blue gti which also showed up swirls after time. I have an edition30 now in Silver and found this to be easy to maintain also doesnt show swirl marks ?? Well no where near as bad the black , silver me just ordered a mk6 in reflex. just my opinon, (but opions like arse holes we all have one but i prefer my own one) hahaha   :laugh:Steve30

Cheers Steve30. The dealer told me to pick a metalic paint as it's "better paint and harder" than a flat colour. To be honest i was thinking met silver but have seen a few white GTI's that look good and have been told white doesn't show up swirls (dont know if that's true or not)

Not that uncommon TBH, one of my best mates works at the Cowley mini plant and his job is respraying bits of cars that are not right when they come off the line. Think there's about 3 of them that work all the time the factory is running and do double figure number of cars every day.

Some are just single panels but on some colours they have to repaint whole sides or whole cars. They are sent out as new cars and delivered to customers as such.

The problem with white GTI's they look awsome, but after a year or so they start to lose there colour , it can start to fade?? Thats what put me off buying one in white, they are cheeper as well (by 500quid) they do turn heads though!! same as the black, if thats your bag? Me just want to blend in a bit thanks Steve30

Hi SundayDriver,

I'm going through the same process of rejection. The dealer trying for a 'car change' with VW uk....basically the car has had an engine fault since day one and out of the four months I've had the car it's been in the workshop for over 4 weeks...seems like it's going to drag on and on...losing the will to live! ...then if they do accept the rejection, it sounds like a 3/4 month wait for another one!

Glad you got sorted though.....it's such a hassle

I have no regrets choosing white. And I hardly clean mine but when i do it comes up pukka straight away,
Think I was one of the 1st on this forum to own a white GTI, I had no probs with swirls, dodgypaint etc... etc..

Yes am being told march at the earliest for delivery, dont give in. At first i was told no chance to reject the car but as soon as i phoned VW UK they told me i had the right to reject the car, also told me the dealer HAD done repairs to the car (which was denied by the dealer) and also told me to get back to them if the dealer still refused to take back the car. They also asked me who i was speaking to at the dealer which i told them and they said not to bother with him and speak to the 'brand manager' and even give me his name.

Dont give in, keep pestering them every day and if they tell you to bring it in any more for them to have a look at refuse and tell them you want to reject it.Put your foot down its the only way to go or they will keep fobbing you off
