VW,Audi and Porsche used to recommend vaseline in the owners manual - great protection but picked up every bit of dust n crap, not really what you wnat when you come to remove the vaseline in the spring.

Today I trolley jacked the red beast up, took wheels off, washed, clayed, washed, dried, polished, waxed, then sealed them. No salt will get me!!!!

I admire your dedication! But is there an easier way to protect our wheels from the dreaded salt?!

...........yes mate.Do what i do & wash them regular,even if  it's too cold/icy to do the body work.  I've done the body work with a good few coats of wax over the past few weeks.

Why would you use 2 different layers of protection ? Jetseal on its own is more than adequate, what would the wax layer on top do that the Jetseal can't ?

hi all

i have not cleaned my car to be part x'd for around 2 months haha and will not be doing so either until the date it is traded in for my new gti!

i am a noob when it comes to car cleaning, but with getting a new car, i want to keep on top of things.

having read the detailing sections, i presume the following is adequate:

1) 2 bucket wash method
2) clay - 2ce a year or so
3) wax
4) polish

does the above sound ok, and in that order?!?! i just didnt know what i needed to do when i 1st get it, whether i should wait a while before i do my 1st clean and the rest.

Swap the polish & the wax round & you're there. Add some jetseal 109 after the polish & before the wax & you're cooking with gas

Depending how much you want to spend, poorboy's stuff is excellent, what dodo I've tried seems great or Collinate waxes for durable protection (845 is the one I've just tried & it rocks!).

Everyone seems to have their own methods. For instance I snow foam mine at least twice when washing it to try and get as much dirt off as possible before putting the wash mitt to it.
I glaze mine (polish) and then wax to seal it in rather than the way you have suggested.

A lot of folk make it the first thing they do as I wouldn't trust the protection the garage have put on.
