Lapsed Insurance vs No Claims Discount
« on: 24 November 2009, 17:07 »
A mate is considering a GTi and has the opportunity now to get shot of his current car.

Knowing the [seemingly daily] delays in getting hold of a new VW, if he flogs his current car now and cancels his insurance, will his accrued No Claims be void when he comes to take delivery of his new GTi [sometime in 2012]??

Your comments please.

NCB generally lasts for 2-3 years depending on the company so he should have no problems

I sold a car and cancelled a policy in late 2004 and used the NCD on a new policy in March 2005. No problems at all.

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

Many thanks - will pass this on.

His current insurers seem unable to tell him anything constructive, rather advise him to keep his policy going til it expires [May I think] even if he sells the car; crazy!
