Cheers fella, will give this ago soon enough! Like you say, likely to be the motor knackered though :(

Anyone any idea of the MOT question?

Personally, I'd convert to manual windows.

I had considered fitting electric windows to mine, but as most original motors are going to be at least 20 years old, and many pattern parts are unreliable, I decided to leave it as it was. I even had a problem with my drivers door manual window earlier in the year, but a complete door off ebay for £10, 15 mins of screwdriver and spanner work and the job was done.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I don't think it's an MOT failure, but don't quote me on that.

It will be a pain in the arse though when using car parks and drive-thrus

I agree re. most pattern parts being unreliable (from experience) but I can also vouch that the Dubber's motors are top quality (also from experience).

If you do convert to manual, make sure you do it properly - nothing says 'can't be bothered' more than manual winders and electric switches in the centre console

I did the opposite of Dubber36 and converted from manual to electric - using all good stuff including Dubbers motors and mechs. Much better than the hand windy things. Only issue I have had is that the driver's window now whistles (might have done before but don't remember) - and can't see anything obvious why - hmmph!
