GTI Honeycombe Holes Question
« on: 22 November 2009, 03:56 »
Am looking to buy a GTI and notice that some have just one little hole in the 'honeycombe' section around the fog light and some seem to have several which look a bit unsightly. Why is this? is it due to stonechips breaking the sections?

I think you might be wrong.

Im pretty sure it was the early model cars that had a number of holes and ones from around the 06 time onwards came with the single holes. There are exceptions to this as mine is an 05 but only has one. I'm pretty sure thats what I heard.

Thats my understanding as well, only the very early 05's had a few open holes, most just have the one.

These are mine (manual gearbox).

Those open holes are only found on the very early GTI's (like mine as well).  VW stopped doing them like pretty quickly.  No one seems to know why...

The single hole is where the fog light cover is screwed in.

Don't know why they had a few at the bottom though.

Sounds about right, mine was registered in march 05 and is an 04 MY, I think the MY05's onwards didn't have them so it was only the 04 plate and early 05 plate's that had the random holes.
