Digifant fueling problems
« on: 21 November 2009, 20:55 »
Good Evening all,
Got a bit of a problem with my 8v 1991 mk2! In short turn ignition on fuel injectors open and fills my 1000 mile old rebuilt 2.0 agg/pb hybrid lump up with petrol dependant on which inlet valves are open! Just got it running perfect (with rubjonnys set up guide). I was on my way out when I noticed the reversing lights were out so to check the bulbs out I put the ignition on and dropped it in reverse, bulbs were ok so I got back in went to start and no.2 and 3 piston hit what turned out a wall of petrol! Doesn t appear to have damaged the lump cos it wil run in a fashion with mole grips on the fuel inlet pipe. Can anyone help?

Check the earth that goes to the gearbox is intact, clean and tight

If its neither of these you will have to sort out the earth and replace the ecu as it will be fried

Thanks for that I have checked the earth and its fine I have just built the car with lots of TLC and tears! But one thing I did find was the earth to the coil had come adrift so you may be right about the ECU. Acessed the secret MFA display this afternoon and it works as it should and registers the rpm when I crank it over without the plugs in and fuel pumps isolated. Could it be the fueling chip inside the ECU as I have an aftermarket one that I haven t fitted.

Sounds like your ECU has died.

Yep this is looking highly likely will be removing it tomorrow to find the part numbers and get the right one.
Got my hands on some alfa twin spark injectors today beige in colour out ov a 2.0 coupe would these have better delivery rates than the cream 281a s fitted to the 8v digi?

Not sure, do you really need bigger injectors.

It was runnin a bit on the lean side after rebuilding to a 2.0 its got a 270 degree kent cam in it as well. but it did go like joe smoke for the 10 miniutes it was running ok  I have removed the ECU and got the part numbers, i ve also had it open and I can t see anything obviously wrong with it. I then changed the fueling chip for an aftermarket one, but no change. I have systematically removed every plug off the engine and the injectors open still and stay that way! One thing I have noted tho they get mad hot when actuated in the open position for any length of time so they may bee foobared anyway.

Just read an old thread and you was right Wayne seems the ECU as AD IT! I just hoppe the lump int knackered all sounds as it should tuning over with no plugs in tho, will be giving it a good oil flush before I let it run. I ve found out that the alfa injectors have a flow rate of 189cc per min what are the flow rates on std 8v ones cos they re goin in if they re around the same or slightly better.
