V6 front spoiler,chin, splitter?
« on: 19 November 2009, 22:48 »
i've bought myself a v6 front spoiler, chin, splitter? whatever you want to call it.
anyway the names not important what is important is that its a proper b!tch to swap.
i have the standard front plastic doofer and i dont like it, so i bought the v6er and it arrived today.
i got home from work to find it sitting in the front room. excited i pick it up and run out side to find that its pitch black and very cold it being the middle of november and all but this didnt put me off i went for it and half way through i started to wish i'd never started.

i am a newbie at the vw dubbing scene so the first thing i want to know is......what the hell is the name of the feckin thing lol

and two has anybody else had trouble fitting them and people who have fitted them is there an easier way

cheers

It doesn't realy matter what its actually called, most people call it a chin spoiler or a splitter though. they should fit with plastic tabs pushing through and yes they will be tight so best to do it when you have the time, rather thatn rush it and bugger up your bumper.
team grumpy....... its a way of life, not a forum post

Changed mine on Monday night....just like you in the dark on my drive. Used the phone to see the clips in the bumper. Ly on your back and stick your head under the bumper and you will see the clips. Start at the one side and work your way along. Once the first couple have popped it's easy and then just push the new one in until you hear the clips pop into place. Looks a load better than the standard one when done though mate.     Cheers     Deano

Some or most of the non genuine ones never fit right.

hi guys just a quick update on the  chin spoiler.

As i said i did the swap over in the dark after work with a wind up torch lol that kept going dim after a couple of minutes so i had to giv myself w@nker5 cramp winding it back up again lol (bad idea) anyway i took off the the old rubish looking chin and set about putting on the new one, after i got my head under i had about an inch to move around under there and get my arms under lol not to mention i was on the main road with cars and lorrys flying past every 2 seconds. it was a proper b!tch to take off probably because it had been fitted over 10 years ago and never been touched sinse then. but fitting the new one was easy!!!! just put it in place and push it on, making sure then clips snap in properly.

After it all, it is well worth doing because it looks so much cooler than the standard one (that is still stuffed in my boot lol)

one thing though, theres a peice of plastic that runs from the wheel arch to the front chin, make sure you screw, stick or whatever you want that peice of plastic back to the chin otherwise it flaps around when you drive lol i found this out the hard way after
sh%#ing myself half way down my road when it sounded like i'd run over someone over lol

cheers for the help

Correct! They never meet in the middle properly.
