New GTI MK5
« on: 18 November 2009, 13:22 »
I'm new to GTI ownership and am really pleased with my new 05 plate, 5 door manual. However, I have a couple of problems which my dealer is going to be looking into.

The fan seems to be really noisy and often comes on even when I first start up the car from cold. Is this normal ? and should it really be that loud? It also stays on after I have switched off the engine too. The dealr said this was normal???

Also, I have had some intermittent problems with the exhaust warning light coming on. I always use 99ron petrol, so I am not sure what why the light comes on from time to time. The dealer (Vauxhall) couldn’t diagnose the problem, so will be using a VW specialist to look into for me. I believe it is linked to the Lambda Sensor ???

Apart from these problems, the car runs really well, with no over heating or misfiring issues.

(the car was a part ex, hence the Vauxhall Dealer , so was a really good price) and came with a 6 month warranty.

Anybody had similar experiences ?

Get her straight to a VW main dealer or VW independent specialist. At least they will have the correct kit to read the diagnostics on the ECU. Then they will go from there.

The fan noise does not sound normal.

Start the car with the aircon on, pop the bonnet and look at the radiator fans. I think you'll find the small fan will not be operating and the bigger fan is going at twice the speed to compensate. If this is the case you'll need a whole new radiator fan set - it is one unit. I had the same problem.
