I have a question about Xenon...

I would like to replace the standard lights on the GTI MK VI with Xenonbulbs myself since 1800 euro's is a bit too much....(including electronic swivelling in corners)....

Is this is possible...what type(s) do I need...is the board control not giving a fault when replacing bulbs yourself... :undecided:

If I missed a link on the subject ...a reminder will be okay...thanks..

I was very close on Wednesday to changing my order and ticking the Xenon box. But after much thought, and thinking what else I could spend the £1110.00 on, as my dealer won't offer them any lower, I decided to keep the halogen units.

I had a long 6 hour drive yesterday and noticed lots of mk6 golfs, and the yellow DRL's look terrible, so I'm going to be turning mine off, on arrival.

Next question what is the other fuction of the DRL H15 lamp, main beam?

If so I'm going to swop out the H7's and side lights, to something more white, and leave it at that.

Installing aftermarket HID/xenon kits in the standard headlights is illegal in the UK.  Its also difficult on the MkVI due to access and you need bulb holders/convertors to take the new bulb and power feed.  You alos need a kit thats CANBUS compatible otherwise you'll throw errors.  HIDs4U do a kit with antiglare coatings on which are about the least illegal you can get at the moment.

I've swapped my factory bulbs (Phillips Long Life) for Phillips Extreme Power, supposedly the best bulb in AutoExpress tests.  Can't say i find them much different, maybe a little bit whiter.  Osram Nightbreakers are supposedly a little whiter. I'm not convinced my headslight alignment is correct though, i seem to light up an awful lot of grass verge and very little of the road lane; the girlfriends Fiat Panda healights are 10 times better !!  I'm not too bothered about the white/yellow headlight/DRL comparison - i don't see them when i'm behind the wheel  :smug:

I know a guy who has his own bulb manufacturer. When I say I know a guy, I mean I know he sells bulbs on a Civic forum. I've already placed an order for his H7 6500k bulbs and have asked him whether he can produce H15s.
He said if he has concrete orders/demand, then he is willing to produce sets of H15 bulbs. If enough people are interested, we might have a cure for the "yellow-ness".
His H7 bulbs are £16.50 a set, so it gives you a rough idea of the cost of the H15s.
