GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

that is stunning  -  I'm having the white  -  I was so set on the cloth but your leather does look lovely  -  as it's not going to be the family car, it wont get too heavily used  -  you happy with the leather? some say VW leather ain't great (I'm having manual  -  test drove DSG twice and it's just not me  -  not in a hot hatch  -  I want maximum involvement  -  I want the Gti for fun)

If you do choose cloth it's definately superb, but for me the leather is a class above. I'm very happy with the leather, very comfy, luxurious feeling and smells great  and makes the already superb interior that bit more special looking. I have only had it a month of course, but I have some good leather care stuff and it keeps it soft and looking great and in good condition.

how much effort will go into looking after it? cloth keeps its look for longer though you might argue that when the leather ages a bit, it gains in character  -  also feel that the cloth surrounds and grips my back better than the leather  -  you got kids? cloth will have them slipping around a lot less  -  all that said, your leather does look great....though the cloth is so 'gti'  -  you don't think the leather removes some of that character?

You could just spec leather and use it normally, but for me at that price I want to look after it, thats just in my nature though. I'm also quite proud washing the car, waxing it and freshening up the interior.

No kids for me thank the lord.

Completely agree, the cloth is definately a trademark GTI feature, but again its wither you want to keep it or not. I've never slipped on the leather either, and as for removing character ? Probably as those cloth seats are what you expect to see in a GTI, but I just thought the leather was classy.

Have you seen a GTI with both, cloth and leather ? If not I'd check it out.

I was not impressed with the leather quality offered by VW on the GTI. That was one of the reasons we went for cloth. If VW had the option of different colour leather, we might have reconsidered. But any colour you want as long as it is Black did nothing for us.

As for caring for leather I have a 9 year old SAAB which has been abused by kids and a border collie and I think I have conditioned it once, the rest of the time all it needed was a wipe down. Now IMO SAAB, BMW and Mercedes fit a better quality leather in their cars than VW.

I have no objection to people specing leather in their cars as it does look ok with certain paintwork, but as to long term durability we will need to wait and see.

Tornado Red 5 door GTI, DSG, Winter Pack, Lux Pack, RCD510+dynaudio, Park Assist with Camera, Sunroof, Cruise, Mud Guards & FT indicator.

When you physically inspected the GTI with leather fitted, what were you looking for exactly and what results did you find that brought you to the conclusion that you were not impressed with the quality ?
