Got the blue temp thingy today so fingers crossed I'll get it fitted and have a mk2 that idles by itself when cold.
Also, the temp gauge on the dash has never risen above a quarter, either its got a mega cool thermostat or the gauge/sender are duff??

I noticed yesterday that the fan does kick in however even though it is reading next to nothing on the gauge. Any ideas? I should of got the sender for the gauge from gsf aswell shouldnt I lol

Oil temp after about 5 mins of running says 50, then kinda rises to about 80/90 after 25/20 mins of driving. Dont think I have ever seen it go to over 100 no matter how much I kane it.

The temp gauge does eventually start to go higher but it has never been anywhere near the centre of the gauge. The fan kicks in after being sat idleing for a few minutes but the temp is always mega cool on the gauge.

I aint got a clue what wires go to what, I aint touched any of em lol and the gauge used to work fine, it used to warm up alot faster than it does now but would still never get to even halfway.

The parts that I got today were the wrong ones anyway, guy had given me a blue oil pressure sender and a black water temp thing. So gonna swap em

my oil temp only touches bout 76 at the mo and it takes ages to get there. water temp hardly gets past a quarter.
hopefully changing the stat at the weekend (if it has one in) will make mine happier and not run like the senser is unplugged.
got my blue senser from vw for 17 quid but the picture the bloke showed me had a flange on the side of the head.
had to nip home and get the part number off here.

Oil temp sounds normal. Mine registers 50 after about 5 mins and highest I've had it go is 98 on the motorway. Usually sits at 88 when pootling along.

I had the same problem as you in that my water gauge temp never moved much although oil temp was fine. The black sender that is next to the blue sender is for your water gauge. I put a GSF one in and now the gauge sits in the middle under normal conditions. I know others have had problems with the GSF stuff but this has been OK. Hasn't failed in a year and hasn't leaked either!

If you have a 'black water temp thing' then it sounds like you already have the sensor. You might as well fit it and see what happens. It's cheap enough and easy to do. Hope you have a new O ring though.

does sound like you may have a stat fault, have a read thru the coolant faq that'll soon pinpoint the issue if there is one!

Yeah I got a black 2 pin. Just really wanted the blue one that sits next to it cus it wont idle at all when cold. If the stat is wrong or buggered and its easy enough to fix I'll have a stab at it.

Got loadsa stuff to do on it haha everything seems to be going wrong all at the same time and I am skint!! Theres for the help guys
