Tornado Red
« on: 16 November 2009, 14:04 »
don't scream  -  this really is the last thought....Metallic paint is supposed to be the most important option when considering resale value  -  I assume candy white is an exception in the case of the Gti  -  what about tornado red? -  looks good but will it mean a devaluing of the car when I come to sell?
I'm still finalising the spec today  -  this is not me prevaricating...I would have gone for white (going for the 3-door and white looks great in the 3-door) but just too nervous  -  just a bit of dirt and the car doesn't look great  -  red still looks ok if a bit dirty  -  love black but want a bit of fun and that, to me, means got to go red or white.

We have DBP Edition 30, when we picked it up, it looked mint and was glad we picked that colour, however it does not look as good when dirty, and shows up dirt a lot.

We have just orderded a 3dr GTi in white, I was a bit nervous, but not because of the actual colour but because I have a white company Volvo already!

As for white and dirt, I don't think thats the case, it still looks ok when a little dirty IMO.

Was considering red, but on the mk6 the grill does not stand out that well.

Time will tell, but I'm looking forward to the new one.

At least you are consistent with your decision making

White isn't actually that bad when dirty. Unless it's 'seriously neglected' dirty. I know it's a very popular choice but I think white is going to look out of date in a few years. Red has always looked good on all GTI's over the years. I think the best colour choice though is the one unique to the GTI - carbon grey.

The white or red are not metallic paints for the GTI.

I have a white GTI and I think it looks class. My test drive GTI was red and I didnt think it looks as nice as red, but of course thats my optinion. I've also seen some pics of red on here and they look great.

As for resell value, as another chap said in a previous thread, just buy what you like now, not for resell value in 3 years time.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Hi, Kev
I know that the red and white (and the 'solid' black) are non-metallic/pearlescent  -  that's why I'm asking if the red will have a negative effect on the resale value (metallic and pearlescent being such a 'must')  -  you happy with the white? no regrets that you stayed away from the red?

Thing is James, the colours of cars are so varied by people that for every person you meet that likes white, someone next to them will like black and someone will like red etc etc. Even with me and my misses, I wanted white and she wanted black.

In my opinion, it wont have the slightest effect come resale value for the reasons I said above. For every person looking to buy a Red one, there will be someone else looking to buy a Black one etc.

On the other hand  I've also heard people say that black never goes out of 'fashion' so will always be desirable.

I dont think you will have any problems selling a GTI regardless of the colour, well maybe if it was bright green.

Thnx, Kev  -  I'll kick the pink option into touch....seriously, I'd have the white as it's so Gti, it's fun, it's kind of what I want the Gti for  -  fun -   just worried that it'll only look good for 30 mins after I clean it but if you say that's not the case and that you're happy with it, I might go for it...
