Which actually works out cheaper based on my experience....

Not always.

Maybe not always, but i am saying that between the age of 18 and 22 (now) i have always had a better quote for either a modified or converted (8v to 16v) car than i have had for a standard car, and i get a lot of quotes (probably 20+ each renewal)

Ok, who are you insured with??

I've been told that my car, a 91 16v grp 15 will cost more to insure as it'll have a golf ABF which is grp16 and companies base their quote on the donor vehicle?

insurance companies have there own littel methods.

it appears the risk is worked out in various ares them its all added up. i for the car

eg:

value
de denting cost.
nickablity
hedge seeking skills

so really bigga motor only slightly increases hedge seeking skills of the car and the % increase of power seems to affect the cost of that part of the price pritty much 1 for 1.

so you gives it 100% more power the part of the program that looks up your cars hedge seeking skills takes the std number and applys said factor ( 100% extra )  but as de denting and nickablity and shizzel won't have really changed it dosent doubel the policy.

also soem insurers apply logic,  and must look at what you've crashed , not crashed.  also converting a car you've owned for over a year give much less steep quote that buying one.

ive allways found it with the quicker cars ive had, 1st quote quite steep but after sucsessfully avoided hedges for the year theres a massive differance  last quote for my gold was same price as a std one  so am workign on fitting more hedgeseeking to it
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Me?

If so, i'm actually with Bell at the moment as i was insuring a Skoda Felicia rather than a Golf, but when i changed to the Golf i had to pay an extra premium which has made it more than expensive than a 2.0 16v golf with HIC with all mods declared.

thats why my 9a lump came out of a passat gl

figured it would be a lower group to insure than say the jetta or corrado
