Can anyone recommend a garage in the Leicester area that can do a 16v engine conversion into a 8v GTi

Not too sure about leicester but if you hit the 69 to cov area theres a place call stealth racing. From what I hear they can do a few different conversions. Couple of places in nuneaton aswell I think. Not very far from leicester (I am in the leicestershire area myself)

Is it worth it, easy enough conversion to do but you end up with a car that will cost more to insure etc.

I've got an 86 5 door 8v Gti and I'm 34 with 5 years no claims so hopefully insurance shouldn't be an issue. I thought about gas flowing the head and a fast road cam, but even that won't get 130bhp and cost about the same as a 16v conversion

The insurance issue will be the fact your insuring a conversion and not a factory built car.

Which actually works out cheaper based on my experience....

I think a well set up 8valve is a really good all rounder. TSR built mine a few years ago, still driveable in town, doesnt overheat at all and is ok on fuel, its quicker than the girlfriends VR6 aswell   .
